Beginning Karate : Side Kick
How are you doing? My name is Qaeem and on behalf of Expert Village, I''m going to be demonstrating Shorin-Ryu Karate. In Shorin-Ryu Karate today, I am going to be demonstrating the sidekick. This is called the sidekick because you are coming from the hip or your side and it is going to be shooting out towards the side. Now, when you are shooting a sidekick, you want to use the blade of your foot. This is the blade of your arm that is the same blade that you want to use in your foot. When your foot is here your feet are facing flat on the ground. Whichever foot you are going to be kicking with that is the one that you are going to use as sparring. So this foot is here, you can practice it by getting on the side of your foot here and just bringing it up, just bringing it up. That way when you shoot a sidekick you can easily put it sideways. Now we are going to be doing this kick from the back stance, which are also known as the front stance. Back stance, you are going to get into your fighting position. Then you are going to come here, you are going to shift your side, bring the knee up. Every time you kick, you always want to kick from your knee. You want to bring your knee up, kick from the waist. Bring your knee up, kick it out and bring it down. Same side, up, out and down. Now, that''s what you want to do when you are practicing it. Now, when you get faster and you begin to practice you''ll get better. You want to come in close, bring it up, kick it out. That''s the sidekick. My name is Qaeem on behalf of Expert Village thank you for watching.
