Beginning Karate : Low Block
How are you doing? My name is Qaeem and on behalf of Expert Village, I''m going to be demonstrating Shorin-Ryu Karate. In Shorin-Ryu Karate, today I am going to be demonstrating the downward block also known as the low block. Now the low block is for when you are guarding; you''re protecting your groin. Now you are also starting when you are doing a low block just like the middle block and the high block. You are starting from the X block. Also, with the X block, once again, the arm that is in front is the arm that you are going to be blocking with. Once again, this is a block, the X block, is the block that is protecting your upper body, your face and the low block is protecting your groin. So you are going to start in the ready position, X block up, left arm is in front, the left arm is going to be doing the low block. You don''t want to low block too far out because it is not protecting anything. You want to be right in front of your groin area. Come up, right arm in front and down. Just like with the punch, you want both of your arms to be, simultaneously you want them to move at the same time. You do not want to have you come up, your block is here, and this arm is still here. Then it comes back, you want to be at the same time. I am going to do this from the side. Come up, X block, down, X block, down. That is the low block or downward block. My name is Qaeem on behalf of Expert Village, thank you for watching.
